To coincide with the Industrial Revolutionaries exhibition at the Harris Museum I am curating a film show, Yard Works on Film, 7.30pm to 9pm, Mitchell & Kenyon Cinema, Foster Building, Corporation Street, Preston – this thursday evening. To book ring 01772 905414 or click here for details.
Visitors to the exhibition have been drawn to the historic model of the Horrockses Yard Works with edited film of the actual site by Mitchell & Kenyon and Will Onda. The film show will be an opportunity to view the films in full and find out more about the Yard Works and the film makers who were drawn to it.
The Yard Works was once a huge cotton manufacturing complex in the centre of Preston. Founded in 1791 it closed in 1962 and was gradually demolished. Today only a few boundary walls remain. The site is now home to Homebase but remains mostly underused or derelict – awaiting the promise of redevelopment.
The screening will present 7 films marking the transition of Yard Works site from 1901 until 2009 by Mitchell & Kenyon, Will Onda, British Pathe and Rachel Riggs.
